Nigerian Flamboyant Weddings

A luxurious wedding venue

One of the most lucrative booming businesses in Africa’s most populous and developing countries- Nigeria, is in the wedding industry. Although it has boosted a lot of struggling professions that require bookings and expensive fees for the best arrangements such as wedding planners like Bella Naija, Makeup Artists like eyes of insanity as well as professional photographers such as Artilary photography and so on. Such weddings has not only become popular among actors and actresses, but also to any household name ranging from the Indimi’s to the Wellingtons. Such weddings cost a lot of millions of naira to millions of dollars depending on the how large their pocket are. According to a popular wedding planner Funke Bucknor who tells in CNN that some weddings cost as high as a 100 million Naira ($277,393). It has attracted various eye-catching photo shots of the groom and bride and the main event to ridiculously large sizes of bridal trains to grooms men as well as huge numbers of guests which can be up to a 1000 guests.

The efforts it takes into preparing for such weddings are made easy by various wedding planners, professional make-up artists and well-known photographers which make the event as wondrous as it can be. Such weddings are seen by aspiring brides and this makes another round of wedding preparations on the way. We haven’t gotten down to the amount of money it takes to get the aso-ebi, jewelry and shoes that each of these brides use on their special day.

This has created a kind of competition among the rich and famous as well as the average Nigerian families hoping for such a wedding in order to see “who and who” did the most on their children’s special day. Not only has such kind of weddings led to bankruptcy as well as wastage of resources due to borrowing of loans in order to fulfill their children wishes but also to be the talk of the town even if it’s for a day! People that end up this way are not even able to put a plate of food on the table at the end of the month! All because of they want to show people they are living the high life.

Although the thought of having a beautiful wedding is no crime in the least, but we should be realistic and see that a wedding is between two people, a marriage is the joining of two families to become one and not for people to know how well-off you are or not. Do the best you can do for your wedding within your budget and not more than that in order to lead to severe consequences.
